to find a tomb in the midst of "Gangnam"
The royal tomb of Seonjeongneung, located within Samneung Park, is an uncommon sight in the middle of the city. In addition, Gyeonggukdaejeon, a complete code of law, was compiled to proclaim that the country was a law-governed country.
King Seongjong is also famous due to the incidents with his wife, Disposed Queen Lady Yoon. She was notorious for her jealousy, and as a result, the King had to sentence her to death by poison. After that, Prince Yeonsan, the child of King Seongjong and Disposed Queen Lady Yoon, came to power and was the worst tyrant in Chosun Dynasty. Because of this tragedy, the stories related to King Seongjong are often used in novels, dramas, and movies. Running down from Gwanaksan (Mountain) and Cheongyesan (Mountain), Yangjae Stream flows through Gwacheon toward Gangnam. When the Gangnam area was being developed, sewage would flow into the river which caused it to be called 'Garbage Stream'. Due to such sickening odor, it was nearly impossible to pass through the area. However, starting in 1995, with the support of local residents and municipal offices, a cleanup effort to revive Yangjae Stream has brought it back to its original beauty. Fish, cranes, ducks and other water fowls, as well as 300 different kinds of amphibian, mammalian and reptilian creatures have returned, which has astonished people.
The place is very popular with visitors and also a great destination throughout all four seasons. It is especially popular among couples who would visit there for romantic dates in the summer. Plus, since it is close to Dogok-dong, people can have a chance to grab a meal or teatime at nearby cafes there after enjoying a walk around Yangjae Stream.

A brand-new street full of information technology blended with art. Meet energetic Gangnam
After PSY's hit song 'Gangnam Style' had taken the world by storm, Gangnam Station became a destination for foreign tourists wanting to experience the true 'Gangnam Style.' Gangnam Station is an important center for public transportation and connected to a number of bus lines. It is surrounded by theaters, record stores, bookstores, private academies, restaurants, cafes and other amenities. It has become a popular gathering place with young people. Plus, many tourists often come to give patronage to nearby beauty salons, cosmetic surgery and ophthalmology clinics, as well as spas and massage specialists.
'U-Street' connects Gangnam Station to Sinnonhyeon Station and is always overflowing with activities. The 12-meter high and 1.4-meter wide Media Pole carries a striking similarity to an Egyptian obelisk, which is a popular place for people to pose and take pictures.
Between exits 11 and 12 of Gangnam Station is the M-Stage square where people utilize as a meeting spot and place to rest, and often used to host many various performances. Recently, PSY's "Gangnam Style" has brought even more popularity to the area.
Feel the vigor and energy of the youth. Make fun memories at Gangnam Station.
Another must-visit spot neighboring Gangnam Station, Kukkiwon is a public organization for managing and boosting Taekwondo in Korea
Kukkiwon, also known as World Taekwondo Headquarters and home of the World Taekwondo Academy, is based at Yeoksam-dong in Gangnam-gu district. In contrast to the bustling energy in Gangnam Station, Kukkiwon is a place where the fresh air and the scent of trees linger everywhere. Take a trip to savor the beautiful nature and learn more about the history of Taekwondo.
Kukkiwon has opened in 1991 and kept the history of the martial art, Taekwondo. More than 60,000 people have made pilgrimage here to see roughly 2,600 items of historical significance to Taekwondo on exhibit. Assimilating the history and culture of Taekwondo from these items helps to expand the understanding of the evolution of this martial art.
Kukkiwon leads the Taekwondo Association comprised of 162 nations around the world. The site proudly presents a gymnasium that can accommodate around 30,000 people, and holds globally prominent Taekwondo conferences. Kukkiwon manages many of great duties such as testing for raking of roughly 8.5 million Taekwondo practitioners, the sending of delegates for exhibitions, international exchanges, public relations regarding the martial art, and applications of Taekwondo groups. Within the area of the headquarters is Gukgiwon-gil, which was originally a part of Teheran-ro. The road passes by beautiful Gangnam Station on the right, and then eventually leads into the main street of Teheran-ro. At the end of the area is the LG Art Center which offers various musical, dance, and theatrical performances.
Garosu-gil wasn't always a place young people loved. Even in the beginning of 2000, it was occupied with a few galleries, clinics and designer shops. But, it has changed all when the designer shops started to dissipate one by one, which then were replaced with trendy cafes.
These cafes, unlike large franchise cafes and restaurants, carry their own unique personality. The youth who adore the culture and arts began to frequently stop by Garosu-gil. There is no such quiet and cozy place like here to enjoy in Gangnam. Garosu-gil became highly sought out for those looking for a little peace and quiet.
There are various restaurants of famous chefs and an assorted spread of dessert cafes to be found in Garosu-gil. It's also an area frequented by celebrities on dates. There is also various vintage clothing stores scattered around Garosu-gil, thereby making it a frequent destination for fashion lovers. It is also home to the special Simone Handbag Museum, which has been featured in New York Times that 'make sure to find some time to visit the Simone Handbag Museum', where the past, present and future of handbags are on display.
These days, the cafes and restaurants on Garosu-gil, and its cross street Serosu-gil, are creating a different culture. Compared to the cafes on Garosu-gil, the ones on Serosu-gil are a bit out of the way but even more unique and fun
